UConn Lands Recruit Daniel Hamilton

894022Shortly after midnight this morning, news broke that star swingman, and 2014 recruit,  Daniel Hamilton has committed to UConn — joining NC State transfer Rodney Purvis in what should be a phenomenal backcourt even if junior Ryan Boatright forgoes his senior season.

As seems to be customary nowadays, Hamilton broke the news himself via Twitter (technically, via Instagram I suppose), saying “Ya boy just committed to Connecticut #huskyguard can’t wait.” First task will be embracing the new UConn branding. Connecticut is so last year.

Hamilton is a Los Angeles native, as are DeAndre Daniels and head coach Kevin Ollie. ESPN ranked Hamilton the #27 overall recruit in the 2014 class (#28 on Rivals). Listed at 6’6″ and 175 lbs, he may profile more as a 3 than a 2 on UConn’s backcourt-centric roster, but certainly gives the Huskies many lineup options going forward.

Hamilton’s commitment also marks the second major recruiting victory for Kevin Ollie this offseason. There was notable consternation that UConn would not be able to land high-profile recruits after being the odd man out during conference realignment. Instead, Ollie has landed the best available transfer and a top 30 2014 recruit.

  1. Good midrange game, but he’s a strong rebounder, too. I’d like some more bigs, but Ollie is bringing in some nice talent.

  2. Also, it should be noted that Hamilton has the skills to play point guard if need be. Great passer with a tight handle. The Hamilton brothers are all known for moving the ball well.
