Karaban Joins Hurley’s Recruiting Caravan (Sorry, I’m trying to delete it)

In a move that will please human UConn basketball fans and boneyarders alike, four-star combo forward Alex Karaban has announced his plan to join the Huskies’ rapidly expanding 2022 recruiting class. He held 18 scholarship offers from power conference teams.

Karaban (#88 nationally by 247 composite) figures to be an early contributor for Dan Hurley’s club. A 6’8″ sharpshooter, Karaban could potentially slide right into Tyler Polley’s role as a freshman. The Huskies have struggled to find reliable perimeter shooters for several years now (you remember), but adding Jordan Hawkins and Karaban in consecutive classes should really turn that around.

Karaban is UConn’s third commitment in the 2022 class following Corey Floyd and Connecticut’s high school player of the year and renowned large human, Donovan Clingan.

As for Hurley, his recruiting continues to be white hot. Karaban’s commitment (at least temporarily) pushes the Huskies’ 2022 class to #3 nationally. That likely won’t last as other players in the class commit elsewhere, but it’s all but guaranteed that UConn ends up with another top-25, its fourth straight since Hurley took the program over.

The Huskies still have at least two open scholarships in the 2022 class. Hurley and his staff will likely now pivot to add more talent to the backcourt. Four-star guard JJ Starling (#38) appears to be a primary target.
