UConn Left Waiting on Zach Brown

After an eventful weekend that included both an unofficial visit to UConn and loud rumors of an impending commitment, five-star big man Zach Brown has returned home to his native Miami, apparently to entertain last ditch pitches from North Carolina State and Miami.

Brown is a 2017 recruit, meaning he doesn’t have any particular need to rush his collegiate decision. Yet, his interest in UConn is well known. Brown played with 2016 UConn-commit Alterique Gilbert at the Nike Global Challenge this summer and struck an on-court rapport.

One of Brown’s AAU coaches in Miami is former UConn forward, and Kevin Ollie teammate, Boo Willingham; who remains one of Ollie’s closest friends.

As UConn’s recruiting rivals rush to get in last minute home visits in lieu of the traditional on-campus dog and pony shows, it seems they also sense the momentum firmly on UConn’s side. The one concerning factor is a looming visit to Kentucky on an unconfirmed date in October. UConn will surely hope that Brown’s recruitment ends this month before John Calipari gets Brown onto his home turf.

Sources tell A Dime Back’s Peter Bard that UConn was hopeful of a Brown commitment early this week as a result of his visit. It seems Ollie and his staff have some work left to do before adding Brown as the first member of their 2017 class.
