We’re three days into our Ultimate UConn Challenge, and have two days worth of polls now officially closed. Most match-ups went as expected. In the XL Center Region, one-seed Ray Allen get 354 votes, and 16-seed Cal Chapman’s ‘fro got six.
We did have a couple first-round surprises. Tate George, aka, The Maker of The Shot, was bested by 2004 National Champion Taliek Brown. (Seriously, guys?) In a oddly-not-at-all-close poll, nine-seed Slash Anderson trounced eight-seed Denham Brown 250-42, clearly on charisma and general awesomeness alone.
In the battle of current NBA stars, Caron Butler didn’t even have Andre Drummond in his rearview mirror, winning 253-11.
Old school standouts Corny Thompson and Joey Whelton won their respective match-ups, with 10-seed Whelton upsetting seven-seed Jerome Dyson. People haven’t gotten over that 2009-2010 season yet. Unfortunately, Thompson’s win means the end of Tony Robertson, and the end of Super Tone jokes. Tear.
Tony Hansen and his amazing 70s ‘do won his pre-Calhoun era match-up against teammate Al Weston. Nice shorts, guys.
And in the final Day Two match-up, the Israeli Assassin, Doron Sheffer, beat 2004 National Champ Josh Boone.
