UConn Commit On the Move

Zach Brown, the five-star center who recently committed to UConn, is transferring from Miami Beach HS to Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut.

Once in state, he’ll be teammates with 2016 UConn commit Mamadou Diarra and 2017 UConn target Hamidou Diallo. Diallo is reportedly very close with Diarra, and perhaps playing with Brown will be the nudge he needs to commit to the Huskies at long last.

Rumors continue to flow (aided by talk coming from Brown’s guardian) that Brown may be eligible to graduate this May, and that he could elect to reclassify to the 2016 class and head to UConn a year earlier than planned (a similar rumor applies to Diallo). If this were to happen, it would give UConn a class of five incoming freshmen ranked in the top-100 (Brown, Diarra, Alterique Gilbert, Juwan Durham, Vance Jackson), as well as incoming VCU transfer Terry Larrier. Without a doubt, this would be the most talent to ever join UConn in the same season in a long time – maybe ever.

While questions have been raised about head coach Kevin Ollie’s in-game coaching at times, his recruiting has been off the charts for quite a while. It pains me to wonder what Ollie’s recruiting would look like if he could sell prospects on all the big-time matchups in the old Big East. Hopefully we’ll get a glimpse of something like that someday soon.
