Point guard Terrence Samuel has been granted his release and will transfer from UConn, the team announced on Thursday.
The sophomore from Brooklyn played a key role off the bench for the Huskies, both in 2014-15 and in UConn’s magical 2014 National Championship run.
“Terrence has been a player who has always given his best on the court and in the classroom,” head coach Kevin Ollie said in a release. “We thank him for his contributions to the program and wish him good luck and much success in all his future endeavors.”
Wherever Samuel decides to go, he will have to sit out a year before becoming eligible. Iowa State, Rhode Island and others recruited him out of high school.
With Rakim Lubin deciding six weeks ago that he would leave, Samuel is now the second transfer of the offseason for UConn.
As the graduate transfer hot stove burns, Samuel’s departure could be seen as a sign that Sterling Gibbs is ready to commit to the Huskies. A Dime Back reported on April 28 that UConn is a heavy favorite to land him, but the point guard from Seton Hall says he is still weighing his options.
