Geno Auriemma is the GOAT basketball coach. And since he started his new podcast, he has also blessed us with a triumphant return to Twitter. And until AD David Benedict learns of the existence of this Twitter account (at which point it will surely disappear), our beloved Geno is dropping truth bombs all over everyone.
Now more than ever, big name coaches are stepping into the fray to speak out on important social and political issues. It was only a matter of time before a man with Geno’s straight-talking style and give-no-fucks opinions followed the lead of NBA coaches Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr.
Here in Connecticut, gun violence is personal. For many in this state, there isn’t a single day that goes by in which they can forget the consequences of allowing easy access to high-powered weapons. We like to tell a lot of jokes here at ADB, but on this issue we are deadly serious. There is no place in a civilized society for weapons that have the power to kill dozens in seconds. In our state, 20 little elementary school children and six of their teachers were murdered because a mad man was able to access military-style assault rifles no sane person needs to own. So we stand in solidarity with our coach, who is saying what everyone should be thinking.
Preach, Geno. We’re with you.
This isn’t political in any way. Someone explain to me what I should tell my grandkids when they ask me about terrorism.
