Briscoe Lists UConn

Star point guard recruit Isaiah Briscoe, ranked 9th in the country by Rivals, has cut his list to three: UConn, St. John’s, and Kentucky. The Newark, New Jersey native has had glowing reviews of UConn coach Kevin Ollie, and this morning announced his shortened list with a tweet reading “StJohns Kentucky Uconn !!! DREAM BIG.”

UConn still has two open scholarships for the 2015-2016 season, and they are still linked to several top recruits — including Milwaukee, Wisconsin center Diamond Stone (ranked #5 by Rivals) and Jackson, Missouri wing Malik Newman (#3) . The two obvious needs on the roster are a big man to provide more front court depth, and a reliable scorer on the wing.

While Briscoe is a top flight point guard recruit — and more of a pure point guard than fellow 2015 guard Jalen Adams (#25), UConn figures to have plenty of backcourt options with Rodney Purvis, Terrence Samuel, Sam Cassell Jr., Daniel Hamilton, and Adams. Briscoe, a physically mature guard with a highly polished game, figures to be ready to make major contributions as a freshman. Briscoe may prefer the relatively light competition he would see at St. John’s, but he would still push for a starting spot right away at Connecticut or Kentucky.

Briscoe’s final decision may come during the signing period beginning the second week of November.

  2. That’s fine. We already have Jalen, who sounds like he’s the real deal. That, and he committed to UConn early in the process. We don’t want to get in the habit of “up” recruiting, and then have players de-commit to go elsewhere. If we land Diamond Stone I would be a Happy Camper. GO HUSKIES!
