I was a little surprised by how little actual on-court success Auburn had seen (only one Elite Eight, no Final Fours), which made picking a coach tough. The all-time wins leader (Eaves) never coached in an NCAA tournament, but with Sonny Smith’s career conference record being under .500, it just didn’t seem right to go with anyone else. Barkley, you know. The Round Mound of Rebound does a little bit of everything, and flanked by Chuck and Wes Person, he could lead this team a long way… if Barkley was the type of player to ever lead anyone. A lot of solid players surround that trio, but it would be quite a shock if this team went past the second round.
