#4 Doron Sheffer – (1993-1996) by Peter Bard Doron “Iceman” Sheffer, known for his crisp passing, sweet shooting, and steely gaze, starred at UConn from 1993-1996. Sheffer, a 6’5” point guard, played alongside Kevin Ollie (best passing team ever?) and Ray Allen in his three years at Storrs, scoring 1,329 points, good for 25th all-time, dishing 559 assists, good for 4th all-time, and snagging 194 steals, good for third all-time, all despite only playing three seasons at UConn because of NCAA rules I don’t understand regarding Israeli professionals. Sheffer enjoyed his best individual season in 1995-96, averaging 16.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.1 assists, tying a since-broken record with 212 assists in a season. #13 Josh Boone – (2003-2006) by Meghan Bard Josh Boone spent three years at UConn, and racked up a National Championship and a Big East Defensive Player of the Year title as a sophomore. As a freshman, he was the starting power forward on the 2004 National Champion team. In his sophomore season Boone blocked a career high nine shots in one game against St. John’s. His stats dropped in his junior year, but Boone chose to leave with a year of eligibility remaining and was picked 23rd in the NBA draft in 2006. I talked to Doron on the phone once. I informed him he should be shooting more threes. I can say he did not agree, but he did not disagree.
