The mail never stops. This week, we address which rivalries we’d like to renew, whether a Temple student is allowed to cheer for Temple, and if UConn football can actually become bowl eligible.

Remember: If your question wasn’t answered, or you’re just hearing about this and want to get in on the fun, you can submit your questions here or on Twitter (@ADimeBack).

Connor asks: I love seeing Georgetown on the Schedule this year. Which of the former Big East rivals do you think UConn is most likely to schedule in the future?

That depends on what their criteria is. If I were in charge, I’d focus heavily on former rivalries that were actually rivalries, but also games that provide some national cache and major metro exposure. In addition to Georgetown, St. John’s would be the big one, even though they’re down right now. Playing games in NYC is obviously a priority for UConn, and they were a major rival in the late 90s. Villanova would be another great opponent, but I do wonder if playing Temple twice annually is going to make that less of a priority. Also, if I had my way, UConn would play a neutral-site game against Syracuse every year at MSG. That game is definitely a sellout and on primetime, national television. While I’d like to see us renew our rivalry with Providence, I’m not sure how much value that brings to the schedule. Given that we only have so many non-conference games with which to work, bringing back Providence or Seton Hall might not be worth it.

Connor asks: I’m a Temple student whose dad went to UConn. I’ve been going to UConn basketball games since I was 2 months old (including the 2011 final four and the 2004 Big East Championship) and football games since like 2000. So I guess my question is what do I do? I’m thinking Temple fan during football season and UConn can during basketball, but what do you think?

Oh, Connor. Connor, Connor, Connor. You’re a Temple student? With your pedigree? You chose poorly. I am the daughter of two UConn students and a UConn grad. That was the correct choice. Husky since birth, Husky for life. You’ve forsaken your birthright, and now you must face the consequences. It’s all UConn, all the way. That’s the only answer here. Don’t be a fair weather fan. Root for UConn basketball and Temple football? No. That cannot stand. In or out, kid. All or nothing. Those are your choices. Make a better one than when you picked a college. Temple… SMDH

Robin asks: Do I have a right to be mad if UConn doesn’t make it into a bowl? I know it’s Houston and Temple but I want in a bowl this year….I need fake field goals, fake punts, fake players, fake fans…#diacolypse

No you don’t. Forget for a second that the Missouri and South Florida games were both winnable. If I told you at the beginning of the year that UConn was going to go 5-7 and play a game at home with a shot at getting to a bowl game, how ecstatic would you have been?

Exactly.

Also think about it this way: 5-7 is the WORST case scenario, and even if that happens, UConn will return the core of its team and come into 2016 as a serious contender to win the AAC East. This is a team that went 2-10 last year.

Root like hell for them to beat Houston and Temple, but don’t cry about it if they don’t. The process has resulted in progress.

  1. I was branched at UConn. I’ve decided I’m going Temple. I’ll root for UConn every other game, but Temple’s my school. Still gonna follow ADB though
