The ADB Mailbag: Christmas Presents

Screen Shot 2015-12-24 at 10.54.06 AM

Welcome to the holiday edition of the A Dime Back Mailbag. Today we’ll reveal our Christmas lists, dole out some UConn puns and answer an actual basketball question just to stay on message. To those who celebrate, have a merry Christmas. To all others, enjoy the long weekend.

Remember: If your question wasn’t answered, or you’re just hearing about this and want to get in on the fun, you can submit your questions here or on Twitter (@ADimeBack).

Alex asks two questions: What do each of you want for Christmas? If the ADB crew were doing a secret Santa, what would you get each other?

Answer One: For Notre Dame to wake up tomorrow and say “we sure would love to join the ACC for football, and let’s bring UConn along while we’re at it.”

Answer Two: Alex would parcel out all of his belongings to give to everyone else. Russ would pull an old shirt out of his closet. Meghan would buy this autographed Dwayne Gratz Senior Bowl card. I would give the gift of spending time with the rest of these clowns. Tyler would buy dinner on the “company card.”

Ben asks: Please explain Purvis’s foul shooting issues, and will FT shooting be an issue down the stretch in games? Makes me nervous.

I’m very honestly not sure what to make of Purv from the line. As we detailed in this quick-hit piece, he’s the best-worst foul shooter in the recent history of the program. Most guys that can’t hit free throws can’t hit jumpers either. But Purvis is over 50 percent from the field this season.

Here’s some good news though. For one, Purvis has gone 3-4 from the line in each of the last two games so he’s certainly capable of having good moments. And the rest of the team is pretty good. Gibbs has been a phenomenal free-throw shooter this season. Hamilton and Adams are both over 80 percent, and Miller has been serviceable at around 74 percent. So long as they can keep the ball in Gibbs’ and Adams’ hands at the end of close games, they should be fine I think.
