In a press release this afternoon, UConn announced that center Enosch Wolf’s suspension is over and he is free to return to the team for his senior season. Meanwhile, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports is reporting that 5th-year senior Lasan Kromah has committed to UConn after averaging double-digit scoring in each of his three seasons at George Washington.
While Kromah (6’5”, 207 lbs) will be on the opening day roster, Wolf’s presence is less certain. In order to remain on the basketball team, Wolf will have to forego his scholarship. From UConn’s release, “Wolf returned to his home in Germany following the end of the second semester and is expected to make his decision about coming back for his senior year within the next few weeks.”
Wolf seems to really enjoy UConn – and has a chance to play some serious minutes if he returns – but it’s far from a certainty. Wolf’s future is almost certainly overseas, playing in his homeland of Germany. He may well decide that paying tuition out of his own pocket isn’t worth delaying his professional career by a season.
Kromah will fill the RJ Evans role next season. He even shoots threes about as well (22% last season, ouch). With freshman Terrance Samuel backing up the point, Kromah will spell the remaining guard slot – possibly sliding to a small three if coach Kevin Ollie decides to go for a run and gun lineup.
There’s no such thing as too much depth, and both of these roster moves potentially help next season’s Huskies. If Wolf decides to remain in Germany however, UConn will again be at a fairly obvious rebounding disadvantage. What else is new?
I don’t want Wolf back. The guy is an adequate center, but his behavior is completely unacceptable. This is where you draw the line. Let Facey and Brimah split his minutes, and he can go play somewhere that nonsense will be tolerated.
Agreed. Going to anger management doesn’t mean you get to skate by for hitting a girl. Can’t root for that guy.
