On Friday night, the UConn season officially began with the annual First Night celebration. The crowd was electric — seriously, impressive. The coaches were fired up. The players got to play Globetrotters for an hour or so. And all was set right in the world, because UConn basketball is back.

There obviously aren’t too many conclusions to draw from an introductory scrimmage, however some things worth noting:

  • The injured guys from last season all looked to be moving pretty well. Including Shabazz Napier, Omar Calhoun, Niels Giffey and Tyler Olander.
  • It’s a true shame that fans have to a full year to see more of Rodney Purvis. He’s sure to be a fan favorite.

Below are some photo and video highlights from a fun evening. We’ll start with Omar Calhoun hitting the 3-pointer that would serve as the game winner for Team Geno.
