UConn center Amida Brimah will declare for the NBA Draft but not hire an agent, according to reports from Yahoo Sports.
Brimah joins Daniel Hamilton as Huskies to explore their draft prospects, taking advantage of new rules that allow college players to maintain their collegiate eligibility through the NBA Combine.
Brimah played only 25 games this season, missing 11 games because of a finger injury that required surgery. When on the court, he saw his scoring output drop to just 6.5 points per game, averaging five fewer minutes than in 2015.
Of course, Brimah’s best skill is his shot-blocking. He led the Huskies with 2.7 blocks per game this season despite the drop in playing time.
Odds are that Brimah will return to Storrs next year. His draft stock has arguably never been lower. As we discussed when Hamilton declared, however, participating in NBA workouts and in the combine – if he’s fortunate enough to be be invited – provides valuable insight and evaluative opportunities.
Because there is little downside to declaring, look for other Huskies to join Brimah and Hamilton in the coming weeks.
