The northeast is expecting snow this weekend. A lot of it. How should you prepare? We answer that below, along with some speculation on conference realignment and Kevin Ollie. We even let Alex answer a question!

Amanda asks: How much booze should I have stocked up for the snow storm this weekend?
Current forecasts are saying we should only be getting a few inches in the northern part of the state. But if you’re in southern Connecticut, or are part of our NYC reader base (what up, NYC?), then you are definitely going to need to make a packy run ASAP (like, why haven’t you already?). In my house, a full weekend snow-in means one full bottle of good bourbon (Bulleit is my go-to, but you do you), four bottles of wine, and like a 12-pack of beer (what? I told you, I’m drinking bourbon). You do not want to run out. Trust me. Booze won’t go bad. Over-buy. Get some tasty/nutritionally void snacks, maybe the ingredients to cook something delicious, hunker down with your favorite person(s) and UCHG and chill.
John asks: What year do you see #UConn getting out of the #AAC? Does it help that #Oklahoma and #WestVirginia want #UConn?
#2019
Honestly, I have no idea. But I do find it funny how fans ask WHEN #UConn gets out of the American, not IF, as if this is something guaranteed. The university isn’t entitled to jack shit, especially when those same fans can’t bother to go to basketball games (the program where #UConn has the most success). It’s not like conferences go out shopping for good schools to add and further water down their league.
Now in the case of the Big 12, yes it helps that Oklahoma and West Virginia seem to like #UConn and that #OU has made it clear that the league must expand or they’re leaving. #UConn is a logical fit if that happens and it would likely be in the next couple years. It’s also possible that the Big Ten swoops in and takes #UConn to strengthen its hold on the New York market and block the Big 12 (remember, the #B1G is bringing its conference tournament here. They’re serious about #NYC).
As we’ve said before, the best thing #UConn can do is continue to make itself look as good as possible. Realignment never truly ends and things will shift again at some point. Whenever that next wave comes, #UConn better be ready. It was woefully unprepared last time and is still paying the price.
Junglehusky asks: How worried should we be about the clause in Ollie’s contact that gives him an opt-out if Manuel leaves?
Not really. When this contract was signed back in May 2014, I did a deep dive on the details and found the buyout clauses much more concerning than anything else. Now, there is a provision that allows KO to get out of the contract without paying a buyout if Warde leaves. But as much as I enjoy hysterical website “The Boneyard” hysteria, there are a couple things to keep in mind. First is that KO can’t get out of his contract until a year after either Warde or Susan Herbst leave the university. So it’s not like KO can peace out the day Warde takes a plane to Ann Arbor. Second is that the provision is really only a safety net in case the culture at the university or in the athletic department drastically changes and KO doesn’t want to be a part of it. In practice, there is zero chance the university hires a new AD that KO (or Geno) doesn’t approve of. And the provision pretty much guarantees that. But KO isn’t coaching at UConn because Warde Manuel is the AD, so no, I don’t think you should be worried.

Boatbazz4 asks: Wouldn’t it be something if we were the only team that beats SMU? It’ll be tough but with a noisy sold out XL and Brimah back…
Yes.
