We interrupt our wall-to-wall Ultimate UConn Challenge coverage, to bring you some exciting breaking news. Rodney Purvis, the high school McDonald’s All American is transferring to UConn at the end of this year. The story was first published by Raleigh News & Observer, and has since been picked up by multiple news outlets. Earlier today, Purvis tweeted “Feeling Husky!!!,” seemingly confirming his transfer. The freshman guard  announced that he was leaving NC State earlier this week. Rumor spread almost immediately that Storrs would be Purvis’s new home. The 6-foot-3 guard never settled in with Coach Mark Gottfried, and played less than 20 minutes in the last five games of the season.

Purvis will have to sit out next season under NCAA rules, but in the 2014-15 season he’ll join Ryan Boatright (assuming Boat sticks around for his senior year) and Omar Calhoun in an impressive backcourt. Purvis is technically Coach Kevin Ollie’s first All-American recruit as a head coach. Welcome to Husky Nation Rodney!
