He continued to improve, averaging 16.7 points and 6.5 rebounds as sophomore. As a junior, he led UConn to a Sweet 16 appearance. It is Hanson’s senior year that marks among the greatest in Husky history however. He averaged a double-double with an incredible 26 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. #5 Scott Burrell – (1989-1993) by Tyler Wilkinson In Rd 1, Burrell defeated #12 Nadav Henefeld, 128-22 Scott Burrell is UConn’s all-time leader in steals and steals-per-game. However, it’s a famous pass of his – full court to Tate George – that strikes the most stirring memories for UConn fans. Burrell was a leader in the era where UConn emerged as a real threat to the Big East hierarchy. He was a well-rounded small forward whose 1,562 career points are still good for 16th place on UConn’s all-time list. He was the first college player in NCAA history to record at least 1,500 points, 750 rebounds, 275 assists and 300 steals in his career. Hanson or Burrell? And both are CT guys who stayed in state to play. Tough one! Hanson played when I was there so that’s a factor. Burrell is probably the best athlete to ever don the uniform but got to go with Hanson as the better player.
