Oh hey, check it out, a special Monday edition of the ADB Mailbag. We were so fired up about dunks on Friday that we neglected to do anything else. So here you go. Mail!

Joseph asks: Big 12 or nah?
I have to say that I’m a little surprised at how many UConn fans would rather not accept an invite to the Big XII. Would the ACC or B1G be better? Of course. But it’s not clear when, or even if, those leagues will be expanding. It could be upwards of 10 years before there is another opening in a P5 conference, and UConn can’t afford to get left out again, not with the subsidies they’re dumping into athletics.
Beyond that, the AAC offers no real benefits over the Big XII other than the relatively short trip to Temple. The quality of our basketball competition goes up considerably playing Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa State, and West Virginia (among others) every year. We’d get better broadcast treatment, with more games in prime time on ESPN rather than ESPNU. So yah, bro, Big XII. No doubt.
Kevin asks: How do you feel about Rachel Rubin as the Interim AD?
This is a perfectly fine and totally reasonable choice that should have surprised absolutely no one. Rachel Rubin currently works as Susan Herbst Chief of Staff. The Leo McGarry to Susan’s Jed Barlett. Rubin is Herbst’s right hand woman, and she started her career an associate athletic director at UConn. Her job is to keep everything running smoothly while the new AD is chosen. This is exactly the right choice. Nothin’ to see here.
Coffill asks: Any word on what Brimah did during his injury down time (other than dress like a baller)? I have hopes for left-handed hook shots.
Left-handed hooks would have been great, huh? We actually asked Brimah what he did while he was recovering* and it turns out he kept pretty busy. The big man has taken up knitting and macrame (look it up) and has become quite adept at both. Rumors are that he ventured into the wild world of philately as well, but we have not been able to confirm.
