After last night’s near-disaster against Boston College, UConn has an even bigger challenge ahead of them tonight, as they face the Hoosiers of Indiana. Indiana already has a win against some Huskies, as they defeated Washington 102-84 in the second semi-final match-up last night.
Indiana is a high-scoring team; they’ve surpassed 100 points three times this season, and are averaging 94 points per game. UConn’s defense is going to have to step up if the Huskies hope to contain Indiana.
The biggest problem last night was poor shot selection. And for a team with rebounding issues like the Huskies have, they need to make that first shot count. On the upside, UConn only committed three turnovers against BC, and that can only help their chances. But the half-court offense needs to be better than it was against the Eagles.
The Huskies will have to contend with a talented, young team. Freshman Noah Vonleh leads his team in rebounds, averaging 11.8 per game, as well as scoring 15.4 points. Sophomore guard Yogi Farrell leads the Hoosiers with 19.6 points per game
Notes:
- Indiana pulled down 50 rebounds against Washington. UConn got out-rebounded 33-32 (again) by a poor-rebounding Boston College team.
- The Huskies are currently ranked 184th in rebounds per game. So exactly as bad as you thought.
- UConn won the last time these two teams faced each other in a 68-63 win Jan. 26, 2008. The teams have only faced each other eight times, with UConn holding a 5-3 edge.
- Indiana is unranked, but they received the second most votes among unranked teams.
